My timetable for next semester is definitely not behaving itself.
Apart from being a typical NTU 5-day-week timetable, it also has none of the electives i had planned for months earlier. French level 4 is only being offered in semester 2, when i will be doing my internship. Forensic science clashes with CS202, and Science in Popular Media is also not being offered. Sigh. Why does NTU have such limited number of interesting science electives? I'm not even asking for spine-tingling exciting. Just interesting ones.
Speaking of forensic science, channel surfing (a new sport i've recently picked up) brought me to a documentary on ArtsCentral tonight. It featured the role of forensic science in helping police solve murders with bodies thrown in the wild -- one could measure the length of time a person has been dead by either examining the insects crawling in and on the corpse or the rate of growth of plants through the bones. Evidence would never be totally destroyed even as the body decomposes with the passing of time because birds may use the hair for their nests, and rodents the small bone parts for their homes. Evidence may be moved, but they will stay in the area.
Moral of the story? Don't throw the body into the forest if you murder someone. The ecosystem is an invisible and invincible witness against you.
Warnings to future murderers aside, the show strengthened my conviction to take forensic science no matter what. Even if i have to wait until year 4 when everyone's slogging for their FYPs and even if there will still be no guarantee that i will be able to get the subject then.
In the meantime, ArtsCentral has found itself a new fan in this unemployed slacker.
